Tips for choosing the wedding flowers before working with a wedding florist to make your florals
After the wedding dress, flowers are one of the most important elements of decoration at a wedding.
You will need flowers for the bride, the entrance, the altar, the wedding table, some petals for the flower girl baskets, and the wedding exit, to mention a few places where flowers are needed.
Before choosing the flowers for your wedding, you need to be clear about the theme of your wedding. Will it be a beach wedding or a rustic barn wedding? And, of course, you need to know your color palettes.
Choosing the color palette and theme
Think about a burgundy, rose gold, and ivory palette. You could go for deep red roses, airbrushed rose gold or blush carnations, baby breath, and different kinds of greenery.
Did you know that you can ask your florist to airbrush some of your flowers with the colors of your wedding palette? One of the disadvantages when choosing real flowers is that you can not have all the colors in the Pantone palette, but nowadays, we can put a little color on them with an airbrush machine :)
Visit the venue
Before continuing, you must know about your wedding venue restrictions regarding real or natural flowers. You have to consider all the architectonic elements inside the venue, like ceilings, carpets, and the colors of walls, windows, and everything in between, because all of them will blend with your wedding florals.
Big and dense floral arrangements are recommended for tall ceilings and short and simple or minimalist ones for short ceilings.
Check your finances
Everything can be fine till now, but before we can move on, you have to sit and think about your finances.
The flowers will take a significant part of your wedding budget.
Regarding flowers, some brides invest more money in the ceremony than in the reception. Still, others invest fewer flowers in the ceremony as the guest will spend more time in the reception.
Some brides ask some people to take all the flowers from the ceremony and place them in the reception so they can reuse these expensive floral arrangements and save money.
To save more money, I will recommend going local with your flowers.
For example, if you live in Florida, use our local flowers from local farms.
And to save even more, silk flowers are a good option as they can be prepared a long time before the wedding and taken by the guests to take home. ( Latinos love this option😊)
To end, before making a budget for flowers, consider all the other important elements of design for your wedding. Think about the favors and invites, and make space for other things that will bring joy to you in the process. Think about the other elements of decoration in your table decor. Are you investing money in luxurious tablecloths or table runners? Are you going to use pillar candles or votives?
Always remember to make room for negative space on each table of the reception. Also, think about other things you can have if you spend less money on flowers. What about spending less on flowers to throw a bridesmaids and bride morning party? (by the way, do you want to know more about how to work with negative spaces and more? To avoid disappointments and breaking of hearts, choose a venue with many architectural designs inside. This way, you will save a lot of money with simple but exquisite centerpieces.
Many brides have a misconception about small and simple floral arrangements, but small centerpieces give you a wide variety of small elements that you can work with within a table. You can use a lot of aromatic votives, sea glass, or rose petals as table confetti and fabulous wedding stationery as place cards, menus, and table numbers.
Another advice I can offer you is to have an outdoor wedding celebration where you can use nature for your wedding. What about a garden? Or a wedding in the woods? The key is to be resourceful with the things we have.
Take advantage of pinterest and instagram
Research on Pinterest about what kind of flower arrangements, bouquets, and everything in between is what you are looking for your wedding.
Technology is one of the significant advantages of the brides of these modern times. Before we had to describe what we would want for our weddings with drawings and talked descriptions, now, you can send a picture to your florist email, and right away, they will send you an estimate or an invoice about your total price for that specific design.
about Choosing the right florist
Besides Pinterest, Instagram is another great tool for inspiration but when you are choosing a florist is essential to go local and visit her so you can know if her personality goes well with you. She can have mesmerizing pics on her Instagram account, but who knows if you are close to hiring the grinch for your wedding!
Look at the reviews as well, but be selective about them as some reviews are meant to destroy while others are to be constructive. Rely on the constructive bad ones before you count the excellent reviews.
Another thing you can do is ask your venue for references or information about the florists they have worked with, so you can start narrowing it down.
If you hire a wedding planner, you will save all of these steps :)
And that's all for today's blog, my dear bride-to-be. I hope this information has been helpful to you.
Happy planning!
